5 things to know: Charly’s

A new series on Dakar Eats! Five questions answered by some of Dakar’s best restaurants. For this edition, we’re hearing from Sabrina at Charly’s, the pool-side restaurant at Sunugal Hotel in Ngor.

Describe Charly’s style for us in three words.
Tasty, lively and diverse.

And what are your most popular menu items?
Charly’s has always been known for its juicy burgers. The ‘Gentleman Farmer’ has to be the most popular. It’s a kefta patty topped with carmalized onions, bbq sauce, cheddar and bacon. Also very successful, on the Tex-Mex menu, are our chicken tacos and fajitas, then of course our homemade nachos.

Are there any lesser-known items you really recommend?
People need to try our Carpaccio al Pesto! (My personal favorite!)

What are you working on now?
We’d like for Charly’s menu to always have something for everyone and every appetite, from ‘light’ dishes such as ceviches to the more serious bean burritos. We’re presently working on creating new dishes using Senegalese traditional recipes.

Sounds great! In your opinion, what makes Charly’s unique in Dakar?
Our Californian style, the decor around the swimming pool, the very cool staff, and the fact that we have theme nights (and day events) all week long are the things that really make Charly’s special. Wednesday is Salsa Latino night, Thursday Dinner and Live Music, Friday and Saturday after dinner You can stay and enjoy the night at Charly’s Club.
